USF v Villanova, or why can’t we play DePaul every game?
Posted by Ken under: Bulls Basketball; The Big East .
Good morning Bulls fans! I hope everyone had a better night last night than Mike Mercer and Anthony Crater.
Today at noon, USF welcomes in #21 Villanova at the Sun Dome for another Big East matchup. Game is on ABC for the locals, and once again for you out of towners it will be on SNY.
The Wildcats are coached by the always well dressed Jay Wright, and are led by Guard Scottie Reynolds, Guard Corey Stokes, and Forward Dante Cunningham.
Scottie Reynolds(15.2 ppg, 4.1 apg) is a shooter. He will always be a shooter. Let him run off of some screens to get some wide open shots, or just let him take his guy off the dribble and let Scottie finish. Unfortnuately for him this year, they gave Scotty the keys to run the offense, and his play has fallen a bit this year. IBBW has a good account on the troubles Reynolds has had running the point for the Cats this season. Reynolds is a very good player, but he’s an Eddie House, and not a Chris Paul.
Corey Stokes(10.1 ppg 3.2 rpg) is their 3 point shooter. For the year Stokes is shooting 45% from behind the arc! Ajayi wasn’t even that good from the free throw line. Give him some space and he will make you pay. I’m guessing Jesus will be guarding Stokes when he comes off the bench today.(they normally start Reggie Redding)
Dante Cunningham(16.7 ppg, 7.1 rpg) is the guy we have to stop today, and I really hope our bigs are up for the challenge. The 6′8 post has really stepped up for the Wildcats this year. With the exception of the UConn game, he has been their most consistent performer this year. If there is one person to get in early foul trouble, its this guy.
Good news for today is that Jesus will be back from his concussion, bad news is Ajayi is gone for the rest of the year with a torn ACL. I know it will probably be Aris getting the start, but we really need Rivas to give us good quality minutes down low. Vegas has us as 5 point dogs today. I hope I’m wrong, but I see Nova covering the spread today.
Bulls 61, Nova 68.
Go Bulls!

Torn ACLs and pot, ain’t that the USF way?
I thought we’d put all these bad breaks behind us with the era of Stan Heath. We are simply cursed.
